Alzheimer's Statistics
There is a terrifying memory loss epidemic: Dementia and Alzheimer's are dramatically on the rise in our country.
Today, one out of eight people over the age of 65 suffer from Alzheimer's (20%) - over the age of 80 this number increases to five out of ten (50%).
Here are some statistics from
"National Alzheimer's Association 2013 Facts and Figures":
1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer’s Disease or another dementia!
An estimated 5.4 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer's disease (2011). This figure includes 5.2 million people aged 65 and older and 200,000 individuals under age 65 who have familial or early-onset Alzheimer's.
By 2030, all baby boomers will be at least 65 years old. That year, the number of people aged 65 and older with Alzheimer's is expected to reach 7.7 million, a nearly 50 percent increase from the 5.2 million age 65 order older currently (2011) affected.
By 2050, that number is expected to reach between 11 and 16 million unless medical breakthroughs identify ways to prevent or more effectively treat the disease. Barring such developments, by 2050 more than 60 percent of people with Alzheimer's disease will be aged 85 or older.
