Indole-3-Carbinol by Thorne Research is a natural constituent of cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale and brussels sprouts.
Indole-3-carbinol induces cytochrome p450 enzymes related to estrogen metabolism, resulting in the increased 2-hydroxylation of estrogens and a concomitant increase in the 2-hydroxy:16-hydroxy estrogen ratio.
Indole-3-carbinol blocks estrogen receptor sites on the membranes of breast and other cells thus may reduce the risk of breast and cervical cancer.
SPECIAL NOTE: Because of its potential effect on cytochrome p450 enzymes, Indole-3-carbinol might influence drug metabolism, although there is insufficent information in the scientific literature to confirm this supposition.
